Couples Therapy

As a Marriage and Family Therapist in practice since 1997, I have worked with hundreds of couples, helping them to reconnect, heal and move forward with satisfying relationships. I have seen the power and effectiveness of couples therapy in repairing and improving relationships of all kinds, at all stages.

Common concerns that bring couples into my office:

  • Lack of intimacy
  • Communication problems
  • Feeling disconnected; wanting to feel loving and attracted again
  • Frequent conflict, angry blow-ups, and misunderstandings
  • Resentment and past hurts that continue to grow
  • Difficulty prioritizing each other because of busy, overscheduled lives
  • Managing stressors: children, work, illness, extended family
  • Infidelity leading you to question whether to stay together and if it is possible to heal
  • Confusion about whether or not to stay in the relationship
  • Defining or redefining the relationship
  • Pre-marital/pre-commitment therapy

My approach:
My approach to couples therapy is informed by evidenced-based models, including the work of John Gottman, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), and the latest neuroscience. My style is practical and solution-focused, balancing increasing insight and understanding with learning new skills necessary for positive changes. Through our work together, couples will not only learn new ways of communicating and resolving conflicts, but will also experience a deeper level of connection and closeness.

I have found couples therapy is most effective in creating lasting change if couples come in weekly for a period of a least 4-6 months. While most of the meetings will be with both members of the couple, there will occasionally be a need to do individual sessions with each member of the couple separately.

Whether you are a new couple or have been together for many years, there is hope for your relationship.
